![]() The game's navigation problems often get in the way of its puzzle solving. Pixel hunting in Spire or Haven is an arduous task at best. You will find yourself fist pumping the air yelling "Wow I am so smart!" But for a lot of the game I found my proud chest greatly deflated. OK DONE! Myst IV is no exception to the rule. But at the end the story always just crashes into a wall. I learn numbers and take fantastic cable car rides. I pour over all these weird machines and observe alien wildlife. The Myst games is a series that always draws me in from the very start. It is a confusing stereogram casserole at points which game me a headache just looking at. Sometimes you can't tell if the thing you are looking at is in the fore or background. Spire is extremely hard to look at because everything is the same three colours. Maybe not the graphics but the composition choices. It is ultra confusing sometimes as by the time you have moused over an area then the magnifying glass pops up over an area that cannot be investigated so it forces you to very slowly mouse around areas of interest and wait for the animations to happen. I really hate this animated changing hand they went with. Yes a lot of the new features of IV failed in my opinion but they were seized and improved on by other puzzle games and even other genres that came later. Yes it is just an exposition device and could be seen as laziness but I think it works really well to keep the game moving forward without getting bogged down in backstory. ![]() I love how the amulet will read some of the books to you and will show you little flashbacks. Team Cyan never skimps on the score budget. As always the music cues are delicious and timed to set off with precision. Don't get me wrong, I also love Riven, Exile and End of Ages but I really enjoyed the dysfunctional family Atrus has and getting to see the aftermath of the blue and red pages disaster. + I like how this story follows on more or less as a sequel to the original game. The full motion video capturing is quite well done and I would even go as far as to say Myst IV does it the best out of the whole series. ![]() Returning to it now on Steam, I can understand why it is my least multiple-completed in the Myst series. The storyline is very suspenseful, the puzzles are compelling, and the music, produced by Jack Wall in partnership with Peter Gabriel, will create an unparalleled experience.I am going to go ahead and write my review for this because I have already completed this game when it first came out on CD. Understanding their motives is the key to the investigation which will lead to a true "revelation."
